Undo
Undo... Backspace... Cancel... They are such common features found in this 21st Century especially when we are so depended on electronic gadgets. I was cooking today and I realised that I can't undo an action. I can't just stop cooking half way and throw it away and redo it by starting all over. Same goes for a performance. Or even a sight-reading test. If I'm playing a piece, I am not allowed to re-do or undo my mistakes. By doing so, the whole piece will sound disconnected and in a mess. Wouldn't the mistakes be even more obvious if you were to repeat or re-do or even undo them? What we musicians and performers usually do is to improvise or rather is to 'cover-up'.
It's the same in life. I can't undo my mistakes. I can't go back to when I was 8 years old and re-decide on a wrong decision I made then. Life does not allow us to cancel what was wrong nor can we undo a silly mistake. We are sure good in covering up our wrongs. Tell a lie and nobody will know the truth. (That's what we think.) Hide in your room. Hide from the world. Pretense is another good way of covering and hiding your real feelings and intentions. But you know what? God sees and looks past all our pretension, all our lies, all our pains, all our ugliness, all our wrongs, all our fears and shame...
God is such, that He gives us a second chance. He allows us to undo what was wrong by allowing us to make a new decision from where we got stuck. He pulls us up, cleans us, heals us, feeds us till we are well and able to run again. Amazingly, He puts a smile on our face! Our next move is important. For it determines where we are heading from then on. A new choice is made with determination along with His grace. Learning from mistakes are important. If you can pick yourself up from where you left out, you will see a bright future ahead. If you choose to stay there, you'll be doomed. Still, we need to recognize that we can't cancel out our lives. We do not have to right to do so. We cannot cancel out memories nor can we not pay the price for our foolishness.
Improvise then? God is a creative God. He improvises from our mistakes and makes them right again by harmonizing our wrong actions with His perfect will for our lives. At times, He allows us to use a turn-about. It's cool. There is always a way out with God. A better way, a brighter future, a highway for life! But God does not allow us to cover-up our pains or hide away or pretend that it's all OK. The faster you realise and recognize your mistakes, the faster you will get your breakthrough. My God is such a cool God!
