Dedicated to all my family and friends

You can kiss your family and friends good-bye and put miles between you, but at the same time you carry them with you in your heart, your mind, your stomach, because you do not just live in a world but a world lives in you. – Frederick Buechner , Telling the Truth.

Happy 1st Anniversary Charissa!

Finally... after months of hard work and sweat on my dissertation, it's finally completed and submitted! Ah, am so proud of myself. (The night before submission, I was proofreading my dissertation in my dream... goshhh ) 1st Anniversary of what you asked? Well, first anniversary of being away from home for 365days and living in the U.K. First anniversary of a new journey with my Lover! =)

Genesis

Just like every year, my new year resolution is to finish reading the Bible in a year. But this time, I found a very interesting yearly Bible reading plan - that is to read the Bible in a chronological manner. So, beginning with Genesis, here's what I've discovered in Genesis chapter 3 regarding 'The Fall of Man'. Since I've been working on my dissertation regarding the power of music, naturally when I read the Bible, I tend to notice the creation and beginning point of music mentioned in the Bible. In verse 8 it says:"Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the LORD God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day , and they hid from the LORD God among the trees of the garden." (Italics added) I wondered what kind of sound did they hear or what sound did God make while He was walking. I don't think God had such heavy footsteps. Neither did the Bible say that He was jogging through the garden of Eden in search of Adam and his wife. The B...

God = Love

For the very first time, I saw a rainbow in the western sky. I've not seen one since I arrived in UK. It was a big rainbow spread across the highway. It was lovely. As always, it reminded me of God's covenant. So did it remind me that I am His covenanted child. "Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love ." 1 John 4:8 A simple truth like that can blow your mind when you realise that God, is love itself. I've always heard teachings to personalize a scripture or a passage in the Bible to relate it with your own condition or speak something into being. One of the most famous passage read and quoted during weddings is from 1 Corinthians 13:4-8. "Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always persevere...

To die I must

This season of love is also a time of dying a thousand deaths... These days I feel like I have to die a thousand deaths before I can move on to another stage in life. I am reminded that the seed must die in order for the plant to grow. Strength comes when one can lay it all down again - build an altar of sacrifice before God. Indeed, this lesson is not and has never been an easy one; but it is a necessary process, til the day when I truly die...

In love...

God remembers... He remembers everything about me. He remembers that I exist in His plan. He remembers and calls me by name. He knows me so well. Yesterday was Remembrance Sunday in England. It's a special day to remember men and women who sacrificed their lives during the first and second world wars. How often do we even think about people who have made an impact in our lives? Or stood for us when we needed someone to defend us? Cried with us when we needed a shoulder? Prayed together with us when our words were limited? How often do we think and remember them? How about the people who crossed our paths and have gone to the grave? Do we value their lives and what they've done for us? Of this I'm sure, that God remembers them. Each and everyone of them. He even remembers each and everyone of us. Nothing slips His mind. Nothing is too small to be hidden from God. His love is so vast... wider and deeper than the oceans, further and broader than any sky that's above us. H...

The path that leads to life

It has been quite a while since I last updated my blog. October has been quite a busy month. It feels like life has started once again. My classes in Uni started, new time-table to get accustomed to, getting back into a student's life once again, learning to balance my time along with new commitments I've taken up since Summer, balancing work and studies, practising my Cantonese (which sounds really odd), getting my dissertation started, learning that it can snow in October... well with all these in mind, I attended 2 conferences and made a day-trip to Stratford -upon-Avon. I'm left with hardly any 'personal time' for myself but I make sure that there's always time for God. New challenges I've faced this past few months - allowing the life of Christ to be revealed through me and sharing Christ to people around me. There were times I wished I could just abandon it all and go all out for God like the missionaries back then or just being in the dirt loving and ...
